One of my favorite toys as a child was my Creepy Crawler oven. I had all the typical toys for my female gender like a fashion Betty doll etc, and especially loved hand-on toys where I could make things, like my Easy Bake oven and art set.
But the Creepy Crawler maker was my favorite. It was fun to pick out which gross bug mold I would use and fill it with plasti-goop. Making strange and unusual patterns helped me to be creative, and I even had some glow in the dark goop, which I especially loved. Putting the mold trays into the oven and getting them out was a fun part of the process, and I still remember the smell of the baking bugs. I sometimes made pins out of the insects by gluing a pin finding onto the back of them. I loved playing with the finished product and stretching them out. Sometimes I would hide them in unexpected places to try to scare my family. I had all the accessories and loved collecting new molds. I still have some of the bugs today, and look forward to introducing my own children to Creepy Crawlers if they are still around. |
