Paying for a Solicitor

There are people who represent themselves in court because they do not want to pay the price of a solicitor. Solicitors are well known for charging a lot of money, but it is important to think about why they charge so much.

A solicitor has to put together a case for their client. Say it is an accident at work claim for example. They will need to get your medical records and then find out what happened, look in to the companies health and safety policy and establish why things happened. They will then have to find other similar cases, where the judge has ruled it was negligence and so the person can get compensation.

This research in to old cases, is what can be very skilled. The solicitor needs to be up to date with all of the latest cases so that they can site them when they are preparing their own case. If they can find a similar case where it was ruled the company was negligent, then they can use this in evidence that you also have a case for negligence. It can be difficult having access to this information and also being aware of where to look and what to use. This is why a solicitor can not only be very useful but is actually well worth the money that you pay for them.

You may not even have to pay them because some of them will guarantee that you get 100% of the compensation that they win for you and so you do not even have to pay them anything out of that. Some of them will not give that sort of guarantee but they will not charge you if they lose the case, which is very reassuring. You will know that they will be working hard to win the case so that they can get paid. They will charge you if they win, but normally a percentage of the compensation, so you know that you will still get some money.
