Transformation From Functioning Pad to Dream Home

posted on 29 December 2010

I currently live in a house which was brought from another person 6 years back and for that same reason there are many things which I need to change here. I have my husband to help my dreams become reality - he works for a slating and tiling company and is a dab hand at DIY. The first thing I need altered is my kitchen. I need to replace the cement floor with tiles which gives it a neater look and changes the overall feature of my kitchen as a dark room. I need good cabinets for plates, tins, and other utensils and also a kitchen hood to make the kitchen smoke free. In short I need my old dark kitchen transformed into a bright new modular kitchen. The next thing I want to look into is the plumbing. Most taps have the problem of leakage though some of them have been replaced in the past 1 year there are more to be done. During rainy season water seeps through the walls causing cracks in the walls and also results in paint falling off from walls I need to take a step to curb this too.

Converting a Porch into a Sunroom

posted on 27 December 2010

I would like to remodel one of the open porches on my house into a sunroom. While I've bought a few pop up gazebos in the past, it would be nice to enjoy the sun from an air-conditioned sunroom. We have a porch on each side of our house and we only use one for outdoor activities. I see enclosing the other porch with glass and turning it into a sunroom as a way to increase the floor space in our house. I am also a plant lover and this addition would be a great place for me to use in the winter for some of my outdoor plants and I could also have many houseplants to enjoy. I have researched this project and the only way we can afford to do it is if we do the work ourselves. I believe that this is an attainable project. Installing the glass would be the hardest part. Since the roof is already in place, the only other improvement we would need would be to insulate the floor and install floor covering. This would be a marvelous addition to our home and one that could be enjoyed for years.
